RGB for the Home

For the Milan Design Week, Italian studio Carnovsky created a series of wallpapers that react to different coloured lights. Brilliant idea, for that really cool home.

Info Graphic Contest

Another design-it-for-us-so-that-we-can-publish-it contest. When will these things stop? While I applaud the work the designers have done, maybe Good should have chosen one person and paid them. Great work, for a much needed explanation, for a lousy cause. Good

Less advertising, or Music Video, though it does qualify as both, more of a feature film. Leo Burnett, Sydney, Australia.

Not a new feature, and our sincere apologies. However, this did catch me off guard and made me smile. Buy it here.

Drop the Beat

Gravité from Renaud Hallée on Vimeo.

Literally. Both posts today have a see-beyond-the-obvious quality today. Might just be the rainy weather, but I'm finding comfort in the new-ness of the ideas and the possibility in exploring.

MicroType

This was created on a micro scale for the magazine, Creative Review. MicroCrafted locally by Frank Conrad, “a friend of a friend,” of Craig Ward, an immunologist at the University of Colorado in Denver. Pretty Cool idea.

Graffiti Analysis

Graffiti Analysis 2.0: Digital Blackbook from Evan Roth on Vimeo.

This is beautiful and highly impressive.

Graffiti Analysis is an extensive ongoing study in the motion of graffiti. Custom software designed for graffiti writers creates visualizations of the often unseen motion involved in the creation of a tag. Motion data is recorded, analyzed and archived in a free and open database, 000000book.com, where writers can share analytical representations of their hand styles.

Need Help with Choosing a Typeface?

By no means could this be all encompassing, but it is an admirable start, especially if you are just new to design.

Dr. John Mullaly of Muskegon, Michigan, and the doubleplus clever advertising agency as Cramer-Krasselt, USA. Who says all the good ideas are taken?

5 Directors, 1 Script

Five directors (Greg Fay, Johnny Hardstaff, Carl Erik Rinsch, Jake Scott and Hi-Sim) were given five lines of script and given license. This is what they produced for Phillips to emphasis the manufacturers cinematic qualities. All the films are viewable in hi-def at philips.com/cinema.

Wonderfully Simple

In contrast to the ornate below, this is absolute minimalist, yet inviting. Love this, maybe even more.

Wonderfully Ornate

Not usually a fan of the too much, however, the typography on the cover (can you really call that since it is only about 10% of the illustration) sucked me in. The use of elements and the care to put them together is so intricate that this would have to be a really great (if not hard) read. The use of gold is inspired. "I Wonder" book design by Marian Bantje, due to hit stores in time for the holiday season 2010 (pub date September 28th).

Nike

When a brand is confident about it's place in the world, it is willing to make the judgement calls that allow it to connect with its audience. Love the spot for Nike. Love the idea. Even love the willingness to put its highly paid spokespeople in place to pull it off. A bit of a departure for a brand who is almost always serious.
